The Malayan Sun Bear has got a short black fur. Some species have yellowish spot on their chest. From the anatomical point of view, it is the smallest bear in the world measuring only about 4-5 feet in length while females are even smaller. Its weight varies from 75 to 150 pounds. It also has sharp claws and strong jaws used for hunting as well as for defence.
Helarctos malayanus is a nocturnal mammal and inhabits tropical forests of Southeast Asia. There it feeds on smaller mammals, birds, fish, rodents, fruit, honey, berries etc. as it is omnivorous. After fertilisation the gestation period lasts approximately 100 days. After giving birth mother takes care of them for a certain period. During this bears are very aggressive and extremely dangerous. There are only about 900 sun bears left in the world.
